Officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approached Cricket West Indies (CWI) to change the schedule of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) to accommodate the second leg of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will be played in the UAE.

After a long meeting between BCCI and CWI, the request has been accepted by the West Indies cricket committee. CPL schedule was already out for its 9th edition as it was due to start on 28 August with the final to be played on September 19.

BCCI wanted to conduct IPL second leg in September but was not able to decide a date due to CPL and India’s tour to England. But they finally came up with a date of September 19 same as the date of the conclusion of CPL. Later, the BCCI conducted a Special General Meeting (SGM) on May 29.

The BCCI and CPL authorities have agreed the new agreement. Initially reluctant to change the date of the CPL, the CWI was forced to relent after Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, spoke to the CWI about accommodating the IPL.

“CWI is doing our best to help facilitate a smooth transition from CPL to IPL, without a conflicting overlap,” Ricky Skerritt, the president of CWI, told Cricbuzz.

The CPL will now run from August 25 through September 15, allowing the IPL to begin around September 18-19. The CPL was supposed to be held from August 28 to September 19. The CPL announced on April 27 that the 33-game tournament will begin on August 28 in St Kitts and Nevis.
