Bangladesh newly appointed ODI’s skipper Tamim Iqbal said that he had taken the BCB President’s Cup as a platform to hone his leadership qualities.
Tamim is having a dress rehearsal as a leader through the ongoing BCB President’s Cup and the left-handed batsman said that he is learning with each passing days.
Every game is a learning experience for me like how I handled myself in today’s situation and if there is any wrong decision that I made today am I improving from it or not,’’ Tamim said in the post match presentation after earning the opening win in competition on Thursday.
‘’One thing I always say is that as a captain I am not very experienced so every game is learning experience for me,’’ he said.

‘’ I am also trying to learn from others,’’ he added.
Tamim was due to start his stint as Bangladesh’s long-term captain in ODI format with the one-off one-day match against Pakistan on April 1 but the tour was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and so he couldn’t make his captaincy debut.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Tamim Iqbal as the captain of Bangladesh ODI side after Tigers’ most successful ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza stepped down from the leadership role during their home series against Zimbabwe.
Tamim has led Bangladesh in ODIs earlier, captaining the team in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka last July in Mashrafe’s absence while he had also led the team in the Christchurch Test against New Zealand in January 2017. However, since receiving the ODI captaincy, the south paw hardly had a chance to showcase his leadership credentials.
It is too early to say whether he will be an aggressive captain or a defensive one but surely his leadership qualities is reflecting through the tactical changes he is making in each of the game.
Tamim added that despite the win he is not happy with the performances of the batting unit and added that he also need to take more responsibility with the willow implying that he understand that he need to lead from the front.
‘’I don't think that the wicket was so bad that eight wickets would fall for 110 runs,’’ said Tamim.
‘’Probably we need to make more improvements,’’ he said.
‘’We have two or three senior cricketers in our team we have to take more responsibility and that includes me as we have to do 30-40 regularly,’’ he concluded giving a clear message to his teammates, precisely the batting unit.
