Sabbir lacks clear thinking- Gibson

Cumilla Warriors head coach Ottis Gibson said on Monday that he is unable to detect why Sabbir Rahman is failing in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League.
Sabbir was expected to be one of the major stars in the BBPL tournament considering he is known to be a T20 specialist due to his ability for stroke making.
However his performance does not fit the billing in the ongoing BBPL where he scored 142 runs in nine matches with an average of 15.97.
‘’I don’t know [why he is failing], he practices very well,’’ Gibson told reporters at the BCB academy premises on Monday.
‘’I think he sometimes lack a bit of clear thinking, does not think clear enough sometimes, he does not give him enough time to prepare the shots that he knows he can play,’’ he said.
‘’And it is frustrating for us and him as well because he is national player. He is capable of a lot better than he has shown in the tournament,’’ he added.
Hailing from a middle-class family in Rajshahi, taking up cricket as a profession was a risky path according to Sabbir Rahman's parents. But that didn't dent Sabbir's dream, which was ignited by Shahid Afridi's 37-ball century against Sri Lanka. At the age of 16, he made his first-class debut playing for Rajshahi Division.
However, it was in the year 2010, when Sabbir grabbed headlines. After a good outing in the Under-19 World Cup, his unbeaten 33 off 18 deliveries against Afghanistan helped his team win a gold medal in the Asian Games.
His promising start in the ODI format prompted the selectors to name him in the 2015 World Cup squad despite lack of experience. He had a decent outing Down Under tallying 182 runs in six innings.
