Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal said that he was a total failure in the just concluded World Cup mission.

He just scored 235 runs with one half-century to his name, averaging 29.37. That only half-century, a 62-run knock came against Australia who literally ended Tiger any hope of winning the match by piling up a huge 381 runs on the board.

His last chance was to end the pretty ordinary tournament with some pride when Bangladesh played against Pakistan at Lord’s a venue which is close to his heart as he scored a scintillating century here in a Test match in 2010, to establish him one of the finest openers of the country.

‘’I failed. No matter how I say it, I failed. I didn’t fulfill my expectations and also my team’s expectations. The most upsetting thing is that I didn’t bat badly. I batted so and so but didn’t get any big score. Only in the last match, I got out in single digit. Before that, I scored 48,62,36 and 22 in the previous four matches. It's not like that I got out at 1,2,5 or 10 runs,’’ Tamim was quoted in several Bengali dailies on Sunday.

‘’The time I was in the wicket, I didn’t lose my control. But no matter how I try to explain this, I have to accept that I failed. Now, I have to find a way to get out of this mess. I have done this before and there is no reason behind not doing that once again,’’ he said.

‘’When a batsman is out of runs, it's natural to raise this question. I also questioned myself, am I doing something wrong? Then I talked with my batting coach. Neil (Mckenzie) said,” if you really had any technical problem, I could have said something and also sorted that out with you,’’ he said.

‘’Those who know cricket more or less will understand that the balls in which I got out, there were no fault in technique in those.  I have played with this same technique for 12 years. In the last five years, I have scored many runs.  I got out inside edged three times but its not about technique. Another thing is, off forms are a part of cricket. In some off forms, you can't even meet the ball with the bat. But that didn’t happen to me. I played well in most of the innings. But those didn’t get big. I have failed for sure. But averaging 30 is not very bad in a failed tournament,’’ he concluded.
