Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza said that they are sorry for not being able to compliment Shakib al Hasan during his marvelous run throughout the World Cup campaign.

While Shakib remained outstanding performer for Bangladesh in the ongoing edition of the World Cup that saw him reached several individual milestones, he hardly got enough support from the teammates that saw them end their journey with three wins in the tournament.

Bangladesh ended their campaign despite Shakib and Mustafizur Rahman came up with yet another stellar show as they tasted a 94-run defeat to Pakistan to end their already successful World Cup in substandard fashion at Lord’s, the cricket’s hallowed ground on Friday.

Shakib Al Hasan hit his seventh fifty-plus knock in eight games while Mustafizur Rahman, put up yet another destructive death over bowling show to claim back-to-back five-for but ordinary performance from the other players made it futile.

‘’I think both matches, in the last two, Shakib batted well, but we didn't get a good partnerships in the middle. The wicket was 50-50, we could've chased it. We are extremely sorry that we couldn't lend a helping hand to Shakib who batted, bowled and fielded very well in every match in this tournament,’’ said Mashrafee adding that he is disappointed with bowling and fielding.

‘’ In some important matches, the fielding has costed us a lot throughout the tournament. The bowling hasn't been up to the mark either, but the batting is a big positive,’’ said Mashrafee.

‘’Mustafizur was unplayable from the beginning of his career. He has struggled in the last two years with injuries, but since the Ireland series he has done well, and he is an asset for Bangladesh cricket. We could've finished on a good note. It has been 50-50. We have given our 100%, but sometimes we need luck, which has never been with us,’’ he said
