Bangladesh national team selector Habibul Bashar Sumon said the players who did well in domestic circuits and aged level cricket will get the reward by being included into the preliminary squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup that is expected to be released within a couple of days.
“You will get the preliminary squad within tomorrow or day after tomorrow,” Bashar said on Saturday. “We have thought to include some new faces who have played well in BPL. Along with them, there are some players who have done well in HP and for Bangladesh A team.”

“There are no too many changes. We already have a set-up for the World Cup. You may have heard that some players got injured. There is a rule to announce a 30-member team ahead of the World Cup. Apart from that, we have the premier league to see, and we have the New Zealand tour as well. Our main concern is to get all the players with no injuries. And this is why we are going to announce a big squad.”
Bashar’s main concern is the injury to the players since they would have to play enough cricket before the World Cup. “I hope injuries will not bother us so much during the World Cup like the ongoing tour [in New Zealand]. In the last two tours in New Zealand, we have never got our best XI. We have waited a bit for this. I hope to get all the guys fit ahead of the World Cup. If still, some players get injured, there is nothing to do with it. Like all, we know injuries are part of the game. But we have to plan how to manage this.”
Bashar also disclosed that they have settled line up for the World Cup unless the injury is proved to be a barrier. “Ahead of the ongoing series in New Zealand, we have sorted out the problem with number two and three [in the batting line]. Apart from this series, Sabbir did well at number six and seven which is a good thing for us. I think we will not have that much problem with number six and seven this time around. I think we now have a settled team. Now, we just hope everyone will be fine ahead of the World Cup and they can go to the World Cup with utmost form.”
