Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon revealed that eight franchises have shown interest in the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

However, the BCB had said that they were interested in running the BPL with six teams. However, the cricket board has not yet made a final decision on the matter.

"Eight franchises have shown interest in this year's BPL, which I was informed today. Now we'll see, we'll learn about them. It’s not yet finalized yet,” Papon told the media on Monday (December 6).

The BCB and the BPL Governing Council have yet to decide whether a players' draft will be held for this year's BPL.

"When we were discussing about BPL, I told them that there shouldn't be much of a difference in the draft between foreign players and local ones. Our players should get what they deserve,” he added.

The upcoming edition of BPL will start on January 20 next year and will end on February 20.

The eighth edition of the BPL will be a special edition to mark the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This edition has been named Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20.
