Afghanistan has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, with Rashid Khan set to captain the team.

The squad features some new additions compared to the 2022 T20 World Cup, with Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad among the players selected. Notably absent from the squad is Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained Afghanistan in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. Shahidi's last appearance in a T20 International was in 2022.

Among the newcomers is Nangyal Kharoti, a 20-year-old who made his international debut earlier this year against Ireland, where he took five wickets in three matches with an impressive economy rate of 5.90. Also earning a place in the squad is wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Ishaq, who previously played in Afghanistan’s squads for the 2020 and 2022 ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cups.

Rashid Khan will lead Afghanistan's formidable spin attack, with support from Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi. The fast-bowling department retains familiar faces, with Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooqi providing pace options.

This mix of experienced players and emerging talent promises to make Afghanistan a competitive side in the upcoming T20 World Cup. With a dynamic spin unit and a robust pace attack, the team looks set to make an impact in the tournament.
