Former India cricketer Rahul Dravid will be the head coach of Team India in their limited-overs series for their upcoming tour to Sri Lanka in July. This decision was taken as Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and batting coach Vikram Rathour will be absent as Team India will be with the Test team in the UK from early June for the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) final and then the five-match Test series against England as well.

India are all set to tour Sri Lanka for the three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series as well from July 13 to 27. A second-string Indian team will tour Sri Lanka because a total of 20 top players and four standbys will be in England during that time. On the other hand, Rahul Dravid has already coached India A and Under-19 teams in his previous stints as well.

It is also noteworthy that, Rahul Dravid is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He has also played a key role in making the young Indian players in the A and Under-19 levels. Even, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had earlier praised him for doing a “great job at the NCA” as well. Later, Dravid was appointed as the director of cricket at the NCA in 2019 as well.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka series will take place amid the crunch time of COVID-19 behind closed doors and that too with proper safety as well. On the other hand, the Sooriyawewa ground near Hambantota and the stadium in Dambulla are likely to host the series. It is also noteworthy that, India had last travelled to Sri Lanka in 2018 for the Nidahas T20 tri-series as well.
