Former Pakistan captain and renowned commentator Ramiz Raja has weighed in on Pakistan’s defeat to Bangladesh in the first T20I, raising concerns about the team’s evolving batting strategy on difficult surfaces.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) following Pakistan’s seven-wicket loss in Mirpur, Raja commented on the side’s aggressive intent with the bat, calling it a “boom-or-bust” approach that remains “relatively new and somewhat raw” for the team.

“This boom-or-bust batting approach is relatively new and somewhat raw for Pakistan, and executing it on a challenging pitch was always going to be tough. Not saying that altering batting DNA is a bad thing, but can they find success with it on all surfaces? That’s the challenge!” Raja posted.

His remarks come in the wake of Pakistan being bundled out for just 110 runs — their lowest-ever T20I total against Bangladesh — on a slow and gripping Mirpur pitch. Bangladesh, familiar with the conditions, chased down the target comfortably with 27 balls to spare.

Earlier, Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson criticized the surface, calling it unfit for international cricket and counterproductive for growth ahead of major tournaments like the Asia Cup.

With two matches left in the series, Pakistan will need to reassess their strategy quickly if they are to bounce back and keep the series alive.
