‘I’ve given this team my youth, my pride, and my experience’

Virat Kohli and silverware make quite the striking pair
After 17 seasons of unwavering commitment and heartbreak, Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally clinched their maiden IPL title in 2025 — a moment that left Kohli visibly emotional and reflective.

Speaking to the broadcasters after the historic win, the RCB talisman poured his heart out, crediting not only the team but also the fans, his long-time teammate AB de Villiers, and the city of Bangalore.

Kohli described the victory as a culmination of years of dedication, calling it a moment he thought might never arrive.
“It’s been 18 long years. I’ve given this team my youth, my pride, and my experience. And I’ve tried to win this every season that I come… to finally have this moment come, it’s an unbelievable feeling.”
The former RCB captain was overcome with emotion as the last ball sealed their title.
“I never thought this day would come. I was overcome with emotion as soon as the last ball was bowled in. It means so much to me.”

Kohli paid a heartfelt tribute to AB de Villiers, who was present at the venue during the final.

“What he’s done for this franchise is absolutely tremendous. I told him before the game: this one is as much yours as it is ours… He deserves to be on that podium with all of us lifting that trophy tonight.”
De Villiers, who retired four years ago, still holds the record for the most Man of the Match awards in RCB history, a testament to his legendary status in the franchise.
When asked where the title win ranks in his illustrious career, Kohli admitted it sits at the very top — just behind Test cricket in terms of personal value.
“This is far more special than winning it with anyone else. Because my heart is with Bangalore. My soul is with Bangalore.”
Despite multiple offers and temptations over the years, Kohli has remained loyal to RCB — a commitment he reaffirmed.
“This is the team I’m going to play for till the last day that I play the IPL. I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had.”
