However, the list was published almost 24 hours later, alongside a revised election timetable announced by the Election Commission. Even after Monday’s emergency board meeting, some ambiguity remained regarding the submission of councilor names.
The BCB elections will be held on 6 October. On Tuesday, the three-member election commission released a draft list of 171 voters. According to the BCB constitution, the list should have contained 177 names. However, six representatives failed to submit their councilor forms on time, and thus their names were not included.
Those missing from the Category-1 list are representatives from the district sports associations of Narsingdi, Sylhet, Naogaon, Bogura, Pabna, and Sirajganj, as they did not submit the required forms.
The elections were originally scheduled for 4 October but were pushed back by two days. After two amendments, the deadline for councilor nominations was fixed at 22 September.
This issue created further complications within the country’s cricket governing body, prompting the announcement of another revised schedule on 23 September.
According to the updated timeline, the final voter list will be published on 26 September. Nomination forms will be distributed on 27 September and must be submitted by 28 September. Verification and publication of the preliminary candidate list will take place on 29 September.
Candidates will have until 1 October to withdraw, with the final candidate list set to be announced at 2 p.m. on the same day.
The elections will be held on 6 October from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a major hotel in Dhaka. Results are expected to be announced by 6 p.m., while the voting for president and vice presidents will take place at 7:30 p.m. The final results are expected by 9 p.m.
A total of 25 BCB board directors will be elected, 10 from the regional and district association category, 12 from the Dhaka Metropolitan Club category, and one from the “others” category. The National Sports Council (NSC) will nominate the remaining two directors.
To contest for the presidency, a candidate must first be elected as a board director. The elected directors will then cast their votes to choose the BCB President.
