Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam has claimed that he wants to fill the void left by Mustafizur Rahman, who has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series owing to an ankle injury. The young pacer also said Mustafiz guided him like a coach during practice.

Mustafizur Rahman injured his ankle in the warm-up match at the beginning of the current Zimbabwe tour.

As a result, the left-arm pacer did not play in the first two ODIs, he returned to the third ODI and also played the first T20 match against Zimbabwe. However, he had to miss the second T20 of the series due to an injury.

Shoriful said in a video message that he was trying to fill the gap of the Fizz, saying, "Mustafiz Bhai is injured. The team is under a little pressure as he is not with the team. I'm trying to reduce the pressure in the team. Mustafiz Bhai always guides me if I make any mistakes during practice. Then he demonstrates how to do better. If something goes wrong in practice, he guides me like a coach,”

Shoriful also said he wants to perform consistently against big teams. “I will try to do good against big teams. Doing well against big teams makes you feel good about yourself. It also feels good to take the challenge because there are strong batsmen. I feel happy that I’m able to perform well against a good team,”

U-19 World Cup winner Shoriful also talked about Shamim Hossain another member of the U-19 winning team, who made his T20 debut in the second match against Zimbabwe. The 20-year-old hard-hitter played a great inning of 29 runs from 13 balls. Shoriful stated that their goal is to represent the national team for a long time.

“I've been playing with him [Shamim] for the past two years. He's an excellent fielder. Powerful hitter and a good batsman. We both aspire to be long-term member of the national squad. So that we can contribute to the Bangladesh team,” he added.

Visitors Bangladesh will look to finish the tour of Zimbabwe on a high note as they take on the home side in the series-deciding third T20I at Harare Sports Club Sunday.

Bangladesh entered the last stage of the tour, a three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, buoyed by victories in the lone Test match and the ODI series.
