The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided Indian cricket team to participate in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. The BCCI Apex Council decided at its meeting on Friday (April 16) to allow men's and women's teams to compete in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

Indian cricket has not been seen at the Olympics since 1900. However, their last appearance in any major multi-sport event was back at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

“The members felt that just like tennis sends individual entries and IOA has no control in the matter, BCCI should also send its teams without any interference from the IOA. The BCCI is going to communicate its decision to the International Cricket Council (ICC),” a board official told The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, the ICC is trying to include cricket in the 2028 Olympics. The BCCI has not shown interest in it so far. They feared they might lose their autonomy if they joined the Olympics.

If everything goes according to the plan Indian cricket teams will play at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in an T20 event.
