National selector Habibul Bashar said on Friday that they hoping to have an experienced head coach of Tigers after the post went vacant following the mutual separation between BCB and Steve Rhodes.

Habibul emphasized bringing an experienced man at the helm as he believes they need to plan for the next World Cup from now onwards.

Former Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes left Bangladesh on July 11. With that, the question that comes into place that who will be the next coach of Bangladesh Cricket team and what type of coach BCB wants. Former Bangladesh captain and current selector Habibul Bashar Sumon said that they want an experienced coach with whom they can plan for the 2023 World Cup in India.

“We want a good coach. Who is experienced for sure,” Bashar told reporters at Mirpur.

“I think the coach who will come will have to adapt with us. Because we have World cup in four years and we have to start taking the preparation from now on. In between we will play some bilateral series too. So, I think BCB will bring someone with whom we will plan for the next four years,” he said.

For the franchise league cricket it has become difficult to find good and experienced coach for the national team. Because most the coaches prefer to coach franchise teams for a short time. BCB also found it difficult to manage a national team experienced coach when Chandika Hathurusingha left the job. They appointed Gary Kristen of South Africa to find a coach for them. Later on, BCB appointed Steve Rhodes who didn’t have any experience of coaching a national team, he just coached Worcestershire of County cricket in England.

But as after the World Cup contracts of many national team coaches are ending, like Chandika Hathurusingha of Sri Lanka, Mickey Arthur of Pakistan and Phil Simmons of Afghanistan. So, it may not be that difficult to find a coach this time for BCB. But Bashar said no matter who comes he will have to adapt with the Bangladesh cricket team.

“ I am sure the coach who will BCB appoint, they will think over that and will take the right decision. Nonetheless, I think the coach who will come will adapt with us,” Concluded Bashar.
