Lahore Qalandars pick Shakib Al Hasan for last part of PSL 2025

Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been picked by the Lahore Qalandars for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), a source confirmed the development to Cricfrenzy.

The PSL was halted midway due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. However, following a ceasefire agreement, the tournament is scheduled to resume on May 17. Yet, several overseas players are unavailable either due to international duties or security concerns, leading the league to face a shortage of foreign talent. As a result, a supplementary draft may be held to fill the gaps.

According to the revised schedule, Lahore Qalandars will face Peshawar Zalmi on May 18 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.


Before the suspension, Lahore stood 4th on the points table with 9 points from 9 matches, while Peshawar trailed behind with 8 points. The outcome of this fixture will likely determine Lahore’s qualification for the playoffs.

If all goes well and Shakib receives the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), fans could see him back in competitive cricket after nearly six months. His last appearance for the national team came in September last year, in a match against India.

Shakib made his PSL debut back in 2016 for Karachi Kings, where he impressed immediately by scoring 51 runs off 35 balls and picking up a wicket to claim the Player of the Match award.


Over the years, he has also represented Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings. However, due to injuries and other commitments, Shakib hasn’t been a regular participant in every PSL season.


So far, the Bangladeshi veteran has played 14 matches in the PSL, scoring 181 runs at an average of 16.36 and a strike rate of 107.14. With the ball, he has taken 8 wickets at an economy rate of 7.39.
