The National Cricket League (NCL) T20, which had been postponed indefinitely on September 16 due to adverse weather conditions across the country, is set to resume after just a few days’ break. The tournament will restart on September 26, with the final scheduled for October 12.

Last season’s edition of the NCL T20 was staged entirely in Sylhet. However, in a bid to spread cricket across the country and meet growing demand, two new venues, Rajshahi and Bogra were added this year alongside Sylhet. The latest season officially kicked off on September 14, but rain soon became the biggest obstacle.

On the opening day, only five overs were possible in the Rajshahi clash between Dhaka Metro and Rajshahi, where Dhaka Metro clinched victory thanks to a fiery knock from Mahfizul Islam Robin. Meanwhile, the Sylhet vs Rangpur match in Bogra was abandoned without a ball bowled due to a wet outfield.

Eventually, Bogra’s fixtures were shifted to Rajshahi, but persistent rain meant those games were also washed out. Matches between Dhaka Division and Barishal Division as well as Khulna Division and Chattogram Division were rained off, prompting the technical and tournament committee to suspend the event indefinitely.

For now, the group stage matches will be played entirely in Sylhet. However, if conditions permit, the knockout rounds may be shifted to other venues. The tournament committee is yet to make a final decision on that.
