Bangladesh team will wait for captain Shakib al Hasan’s availability, who is suffering from a thigh injury, till the last minute against host India in Pune tomorrow (Thursday).
Shakib suffered a thigh injury during the last World Cup game against New Zealand. He felt some discomfort near his left quadriceps while batting during that match and the all-rounder was taken for an MRI after the match.
However, he joined the practice session with the other members on Tuesday after a three-day break since he did the MRI.
“We did the scan today. We are waiting for the results. He is fine at the moment. He didn't bowl though. Tomorrow morning the result will come and we will see him again and decide. If he's not ready to play, we don't want to risk him. If he is ready, he will play.” said Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha in the pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
Bangladesh might bring change in the playing XI with Nasum Ahmed, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib if Shakib is not declared fit.
The coach added: "If he is not ready to play, we won't risk it. If he is ready, there's a chance of him playing."
Bangladesh and India have faced each other four times in the World Cup and lost three encounters and defeated the mighty India in the 2007 World Cup.
Recently, the Tigers defeated India by six runs when they met in the Asia Cup in Colombo last month.
Bangladesh won the first match against Afghanistan by six wickets but lost their next two games against defending champions England and New Zealand by 137 runs and eight wickets respectively.
