Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza clarified why Tamim Iqbal was not included in the upcoming World Cup squad.
Mashrafe took to social media to disclose that Tamim was not dropped from the squad rather he didn’t want to be part of the squad.
However, the former captain did not clarify the reason why Tamim did not want to play in the World Cup.
"Every one may provide one piece of wrong information. Tamim dropped, actually the truth is Tamim did not want to stay in the team. There is a huge difference between keeping someone out of the team and opting not to be in the team,” Mashrafe posted.
“I think Tamim deserves this minimum respect. Now there would be the question as to why Tamim was not interested to be in the team. Actually, I have no answer to this question. Only Tamim can say this. Maybe he will say it someday, then we can understand," Mashrafe added.
In another post on Wednesday, Tamim stated that he would reveal everything about his omission from the World Cup squad.
"I will tell something through a video message regarding the last few days' happenings after Bangladesh national team's departure for India," he wrote in his Facebook post.
"There have been a lot of things that came to the media in the last few days. I think the Bangladesh team, my fans and supporters ..everybody has the right to know clearly about everything," he added.
Chied selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu stated that they didn't wanted to risk Tamim as he had complained that there was still some discomfort in his back after New Zealand's second match, which the team's physios were trying to help him overcome.
Meanwhile, captain Shakib al Hasan had informed the board and team management not to consider half-fit cricketers in the squad. There were rumors that Shakib stated to step down as captain as he did not want unfit players in the World Cup, which caused a lot of buzz among the netizens.
