Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan revealed why Anamul Haque Bijoy was called into the squad at the last minute to replace Litton Das for the Asia Cup.
Bijoy was added to the 17-member squad as a replacement of Litton Das who has been ruled out of the Asia Cup due to fever.
Speaking at the press conference on Wednesday ahead of the first encounter of the Asia Cup against injury prone Sri Lanka Shakib said Anamul was the best option available to tackle the crisis.
The captain stated that Bijoy was included in the fold as the team required a opener batter and he could be used as the back up wicket-keeper as well.
“The thing is, we don’t have an extra wicketkeeper with us. Litton bats in the top-order, Bijoy (Anamul) also bats in the top-order,” said Shakib at the press conference.
“Mushfiq bhai could face some problems during the match, like a concussion or some small injury, which could stop him from keeping wickets. There is a rule now that if there is another wicketkeeper in the squad, even if he is not in the playing," he added.
