Former India batter and commentator Akash Chopra ranked ace-allrounder Shakib al Hasan as the ‘daddy’ of all all-rounders for his performance throughout the years.
The 35-year-old is going to play his fifth One-Day World Cup making him one of the three players to play five consecutive World Cups.
Chopra reminisced how Shakib had dominated the 2019 World Cup and distinguished himself as his nation's flag bearer. Shakib scored 606 runs in 8 matches with five half-centuries and two tons taking 11 wickets in the tournament.
“Shakib is the daddy of all-rounders. I must say that. He is the captain of the Bangladesh team. If you remember the 2019 World Cup, he owned that cup, he was like this trophy belongs to me. He was superb in the tournament,” said Akash Chopra on his YouTube channel.
Chopra believes that Shakib will carry his fine form into the World Cup and claim the top spot of the all-rounder.
“In the last one year, he appeared in nine matches and scored 331 runs, taking 16 wickets with an economy of 4.8. He nearly took two wickets in every match. Shakib is on one side and the other all-rounders at the other side. After the World Cup you will get to see Shakib is at the top of the all-rounders,“ he added.
Shakib led Bangladesh fly to play Sri Lanka today [Sunday], which is considering as a preparation of World Cup.
