Following a stellar performance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Rony Talukdar forced his way back into the T20 squad for the national team after a seven-year absence.

Rony was the second highest run-getter in the last BPL with 425 runs for Rangpur Riders behind Najmul Hossain Shanto's 516 but what drew the attention was his strike rate, which is almost 130.

He always believed that if he perform well in domestic circuit he will play again for the national side.

“I am 32 now. I thought I would try for another 2-3 years, no matter what. Now the opportunity has come,” Rony said to Cricfrenzy.

The batter’s ability to go after the bowlers' right from the start was something what Bangladesh T20 team has been searching for a long time.

In his only T20 game in 2015 against South Africa, he made 21 runs. Thereafter he was called up in the 2016 T20 World Cup squad but didn't get the chance to play any match.

“It (belief) has always been there. I said earlier that I want to play in the national team again. Whether I will get a chance or not it wasn’t matter. The important matter is playing well. Wherever I play, I have only one plan, to play well. Everyone knows that something will come if you play well, I know too” he added.

The BCB selection panel led by Minhajul Abedin Nannu said on Thursday, "Rony deserved the chance after the way he played in the last BPL. Not only BPL, he also did well in the domestic circuit for some years now."
