Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon suggested multiple options for the opening slot for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Since the regular opener Liton Das will not be available for the Asia Cup due to injury, and Tamim Iqbal's retirement from the T20 format has left a vacancy for the role in the Bangladesh squad.

Sujon said Anamul Haque Bijoy and Parvez Hossain Emon are the only traditional openers in the roaster, however, they failed to capitalize on their chances in the recent T20 matches.

"Our recognized openers are Bijoy and Emon. There are many others who played as an opener in local cricket. We have to be careful in deciding who to open against Afghanistan's bowling attack," said Sujon.

"Our openers are not doing well. This should also be kept in mind. In some cases, we have to switch. We will probably change the openers in some matches, will think about that. I don't want to say who will do it now,” he said.

Sujon further mentioned that if needed, Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim can also open, and he recommended names such as Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Sheikh Mahedi.

“Mushfiq or Shakib could open too. Maybe Miraz, Sheikh Mahedi. We have many options. But we also need to work out the combination,” he added.
