After suffering a right elbow injury in the first Test against the West Indies in North Sound last week, England fast bowler Mark Wood will miss the IPL 2022 season for the Lucknow Super Giants.

At the blockbuster IPL auction in February, Wood was selected by Super Giants for INR 7.5 crore (about USD 1 million).

Wood's participation in the IPL, though, was called into question after he walked out of the drew first Test last week after only bowling 17 overs due to an irritation in his right elbow.

Wood had attempted to undergo a fitness test - bowling six deliveries in the nets - before the start of play on the fifth day, but had suffered "acute agony." Wood had only managed to bowl five overs on the third morning before abandoning the field.

An elaborate review of Wood's injury is expected from the ECB later on Friday.
