DPL 2022: Mohammedan face socking defeat as Sheikh Jamal beat Khelaghar

On the second matchday of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2021-22, Shinepukur Cricket Club defeated Mohammedan Sporting Club by 41 runs in Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, thanks to all-rounder Alauddin Babu's heroics, while Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd defeated Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity by six wickets in Savar, thanks to Saif Hasan's all-round performance.


Shinepukur v Mohammedan


Shinepukur batted first and set up a decent 250/7 in 50 overs, with to contributions from opener Rakin Ahmed (39), Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza (42), Sajjadul Haque (70 off 59) and Babu (46 off 19).


Mohammedan’s Soumya Sarkar got three wickets, Salauddin Shakil two, and Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez one in eight overs, allowing 33 runs.

Mohammedan were in serious danger in reply, with wickets falling in clusters at one end and opener Parvez Hossain Emon (54) stranded at the other.


As the Motijheel-based team was reduced to 136/8, opener Rony Talukdar (3), Soumya (7), Hafeez (4), Ariful Islam (9), captain Shuvagata Hom (10) and wicketkeeper-batter Zahiduzzaman (18) all left in short succession.


Mohammedan were all out for 209 with nine balls to spare as Anisul Islam Emon, Babu (player of the match), and Raza each took two wickets.


Khelaghar v Sheikh Jamal


Sheikh Jamal were never in trouble in pursuit of the objective, thanks to a 111-run opening stand between Saif (62) and Saykat Ali (63 off 58).


Despite the loss of the opening pair and skipper Imrul Kayes (16), Jahurul Islam (47) and Nurul Hasan (25 not out) held the fort and steered their side to victory.


Hossain Ali grabbed two wickets, while Ashok Menaria and Nadif Chowdhury, both Indian left-arm spinners, each took one.


Khelaghar had earlier posted 221/7, thanks to Amit Hasan's maiden unbeaten 136-ball 107, which included 12 boundaries.


Player of the match Saif bagged three wickets while left-arm seamer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury took two.
