The Bangladesh Cricket Board has chosen to appoint Khaled Mahmud as team director as part of a substantial change in the coaching setup of the Bangladesh cricket squad.

In addition, the position of assistant coach has been given to renowned coach Mohammad Salauddin. Faruk Ahmed, the former chief selector, is also being considered for a position as the chairman of the national selection panel.

“Sujon bhai [Khaled Mahmud] was part of the meetings and it is already decided that he will take charge as the team director,” said a BCB director told national daily Dhaka Tribune Saturday.

“Faruk bhai and Salauddin are being considered as chief of the selection panel and assistant coach of the national team respectively. There has been widespread discussion of involving them in the setup. The board is ready to bring them in. The call is theirs now,” the BCB director added.

With Pakistan due to tour Bangladesh later this month, there were conversations about making quick changes to the T20 team.

The underperformers will be replaced by young cricketers, most of whom are part of the World Cup-winning U-19 side.
