The West Indies cricket team drafted in left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein as a replacement for injured all-rounder Fabian Allen on Wednesday for T20 World Cup.

The ICC´s technical committee approved the pre-tournament replacement after Allen withdrew because of an ankle injury. In turn, Hosein will be replaced on West Indies' reserves list by Gudakesh Motie.

"I know Fabian was really looking forward to playing in this World Cup, so it is very disappointing that he is forced to miss out," Cricket West Indies lead selector Roger Harper said.

"His all-round capabilities will be missed by the team. I would like to wish him a full and speedy recovery and look forward to him being available for squad selection in the near future," he added.

The 28-year-old has played 15 matches - six T2I0s and nine ODIs for West Indies to date and across 57 T20s has averaged 26.33 with an economy of 6.33 with the ball.

West Indies began their T20 World Cup preparations with a warm-up game against Pakistan on Monday, which they lost by seven wickets. They will be playing another practice match against Afghanistan on Wednesday.

West Indies will start their tournament on 23 October against England.
