Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu believes the recent success in the national team will boost confidence in the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Oman and United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 17 to November 14.
Bangladesh are currently playing a five-match T20 series against New Zealand and have already won the series 3-1 with one match in hand. They have won three consecutive series against Zimbabwe, Australia and New Zealand.
“Winning is important regardless of the format of the game. Winning helps in gaining confidence while defeats are demoralizing. So that way, a winning habit helps you do well regardless the venue or the tournament. So definitely these wins [against Zimbabwe, Australia and New Zealand] will help the cricketers gain confidence,” chief selector Minhajul explained.
The Bangladesh team are scheduled to reach Oman on October 4, after that, they will play few warm-up matches.
“We will start our preparation in Oman. We have never played in Oman so it tough to decide on the strategy before we see the condition there. I believe our cricketers are able enough to cope quick with the condition there,” said Minhajul.
The chief selector said there is enough time for the preparation of the batting unit.
“We still have a month for the tournament to start so I think there is enough time for them to build up and refresh themselves. I was a batsman myself, so if you can have your own planning and a system, you can do well.”
