In Bangladesh's victorious pursuit of a 122-run chase against Australia in the second T20I of the five-match series, all-rounder Mahedi Hasan played a key role in a 37-run partnership with Shakib Al Hasan.
Mahedi asked Shakib to keep his cool as he took risks. Their combination set the tone for the Tigers' run chase and guided them to a five-wicket victory over the Aussies.
“Since I was sent at top order, I was saying Shakib Bhai, you don't take any risk. I’ll try to hit every ball. If it comes out, then it is very good. You stay cool, I'll take a chance on every delivery. The wicket was not very easy. The ball does not come to the bat easily,” Mahedi said in a video Thursday.
During the powerplay, the 26-year-old concentrated on containing the run.
"Most batsmen want to take the chances to make the score big during powerplays. Hence, I always target on bowling as many dots as possible in powerplays," Mahedi added.
Bangladesh won the first two matches and took 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. After losing by 23 runs in the first match, the visitors lost by 5 wickets in the second match. Mehdi said Bangladesh is planning to go match-by-match without worrying about whitewash.
"We’ll go match by match. Everyone in the team has this idea. The third T20 is ahead, now everyone is paying attention to that” he added.
