Abahani Limited beat Mohammedan by 60 runs in the Super League phase of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League today, due to Mushfiqur Rahim's deft fifty before the Abahani spinners dominated the game.
Liton Das was out for four runs off seven balls before opener Munim Shahriar and Najmul Hossain Shanto put on a 48-run stand before the latter was bowled by Abu Jayed in the eighth over.
Munim, who scored a solid 27-ball 43 with five fours and two sixes, was dismissed in the next over, but Abahani could once again rely on Mushfiqur's expertise.
Mushfiqur's bat came alive again in the Super League phase, when he played some spectacular improvised strokes during an unbeaten 32-ball 57, packed with eight fours and a six, to propel Abahani reach 193 for 7, the best total in this season's DPL.
In response, Mohammedan's pursuit stalled early on, with Mohammad Saifuddin making early inroads. Mohammedan fell to 42 for six thanks to Irfan Shukkur's feeble response.
Finally, Mohammedan reached 133 for seven thanks to Mahmudul Hasan's 36-ball 37 and Abu Haider's unbeaten 42-ball 53. Abahani's Saifuddin and Mosaddek Hossain both took two wickets.
