Zimbabwe cricket has suffered another blow following Zimbabwe’s Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) instructed to end all sporting activities from Monday due to Covid-19 surge in the country. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's tour of Zimbabwe which comprises one-off test, three T20Is and equal number of ODI has been blemished by the suspension of all sports activities .
The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that all disciplines have been suspended starting this Monday.

“The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) hereby notifies members of the public that pursuant to the statement by the Honourable Vice President of Zimbabwe C.G.D.N Chiwenga, who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, setting out additional measures to curb a renewed surge in Covid-19 infection rates, ALL sporting activities and events are hereby suspended with effect from Monday, 14th June 2021 until further notice. All national sports associations, clubs, gyms and related stakeholders should abide by this suspension without exception,” the SRC said in a statement.
The ban on sporting activities is expected to affect the second four day cricket match between the Zimbabwe A and their South African counterparts which started at Harare Sports Club on Sunday. The series was organized to prepare for the upcoming tour of the Bangladesh cricket team next month.
However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told media that he have spoken to the CEO of the ZC. He has learned that they are quite optimistic and confident about the upcoming series.
“Their government has banned all sports due to corona outbreak. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board has informed us that they are in talks with the government to continue cricket. I spoke to their CEO this morning. He said they were in talks with the government to roll out the series and were optimistic. They are confident with the series,” said Nizamuddin.
Bangladesh cricketers are currently busy playing in Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL). The national side is expected to reach Zimbabwe on June 29, then the contingent will be quarantined for one day.
