Dawid Malan, the no. 1 T20I batsman in the world cricket, is also well-known in Bangladesh very well, having played for four teams in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The batsman previously competed in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) in 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
Malan played for Prime Doleshwar in DPL, scored 496 runs in 16 matches in the first season. He was the third-highest run-scorer of the team with 3 half-centuries at an average of 49.60.
Despite appearing in only 8 matches his performance was eye-catching on the second season. He scored 406 runs at an average of 67.66 with the help of a century and 3 half-centuries.

“I was able to perform that first year, perform consistently. I think we lost in the final that year. And then I went back the year after as well. And I think we finished second. I can't remember second or third again. As I said, it teaches you how to perform. I sure knew that I have to score runs. Otherwise, you sort of getting dropped, which is what international crickets about. So it teaches you the good lessons,” During a live session on Cricfrenzy Monday Malan said.
The left-arm batsman revealed that he was pressurized if he does not perform to standards, he would be dropped from the XI.
"Yeah, it's the way that tournament worked. It's performance-based, as they say. You pretty much only sign, I think it was two or 3 contracts. Go over and then if you perform, then it would just become a one by 1 match contract. And it was so easy to get someone else to fly over and play two or 3 games. it was all done on your performances. I was looked after beautifully by the owners,” he added.
The English cricketer also talked about his friendship with the wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim. When he came to play in BPL, he also developed a friendship with Sabbir Rahman.
“I have played with Prime Doleshwar and then in the BPL I’ve played with Mushfiqur Rahim for a few times, I’ve also played Sabbir Rahman a few times. So the guys whenever Mushi come over in England, he always messages me when I'm in Bangladesh I message him. So we always stay in touch. And I think that's the beauty of playing in these different leagues” he further added.
