During Bangladesh's tour of New Zealand, pacer Rubel Hossain sustained an old back injury. He is currently seeking rehabilitation under the supervision of Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) medical team. At Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday, BCB chief physician Debashis Chowdhury told reporters that Rubel must decide whether or not he wants to return to the game.

His rehabilitation will continue until the end of the series. If his physical condition is in good condition, the medical department will then recommend the selection committee.

“He was having some problems in New Zealand and at the moment he has no clinical pain. He has to decide it on his own, he has to understand the issue of match fitness. We checked and found no problem at the moment. That doesn't mean ... there is no pain. His self-confidence should also be given importance. We are in the process of rehabilitating. We will wait until the last minute to update selectors,” said Chowdhury.

Rubel has been named in BCB's preliminary squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The other 5 pacers of the team are; Mohammad Saif Uddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam and Shohidul Islam.

The Sri Lankan cricket team arrived in Dhaka today to play three ODIs against Bangladesh. Bangladesh will play the first ODI of the three-match series on March 23 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The second and third ODIs of the series will be played on March 25 and March 28 at the same venue.
