Bangladesh have won only one match on Sri Lankan soil so far, at the same time, the recent performance of Bangladesh, especially the whitewash against the West Indies at home a couple of months ago was a big setback. However, the first Test of the series against Sri Lanka did not reflect the recent performance of the Tigers.

Khaled Mahmud Sujon, the Bangladesh team leader for the Sri Lanka tour, said that if they continue to play like this and maintain consistency, Bangladesh will win Test matches at some point.

“Let us build a proper Test team, let these boys build themselves. If we can compete in Test matches like this, if we can draw at least a year, if we can play good cricket, the batsmen are batting responsibly from top order. Then there will be a time when we will learn to win Test matches In Sha Allah. We will win regular Test matches, continuity is very important for us,” said Sujon during a virtual press conference on Monday.

Tamim Iqbal made a quick run from the beginning of the first innings. He missed a century for 10 runs but played a great innings of 90 runs off 101 balls. In the second innings too, the left-arm opener made 74 off 98 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Meanwhile, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who failed from the beginning of his career, has shinned with 163 runs. Apart from these two, captain Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das were also great with the bat.

Mominul tasted his first century on foreign soil in the first innings against the Lankans. Where he played an innings of 127 runs from 304 balls. Meanwhile, Mushfiqur and Liton bagged half centuries.

“I am very happy with the way the boys have batted. Honestly, Tamim's two innings were great. Knock  of the first innings changed the atmosphere of our entire dressing room. I’m very happy that the way Shanto matched himself in pressure, the way he batted in the first innings is undoubtedly great. Talking about Mominul cannot run apart from home soil. In that case, I think Mominul also batted well. Mushfiqur and Liton both gave good support to the team too,” he added.
