Shakib al Hasan to play in Lanka Premier League?

International Cricket Council official said on Saturday that there is no problem in having Shakib al Hasan’s name in the draft for the upcoming Lanka Premier League. Shakib has been banned by the ICC for two years, including one year of suspension, for failing to report multiple approaches made to him by a bookie on October 28, 2019.
Under the provisions of the ICC Code, the ace all-rounder chose to admit the charges and agreed to the sanction with the ICC in lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing. Subject to him satisfying the conditions in respect of the suspended part of the sanction, he will be free to resume international cricket on October 29, 2020.
Shakib is expected not to take part in any cricketing activity during the time of the ban and so when his name cropped up in the draft of the LPL, scheduled on October 1 it was nothing short of a surprise before ICC cleared the matter stating the draft as it is not a direct cricketing activity as well.
"As per our understanding, if he is not directly involved in any activity, so it is fine," said Rajshekhar Rao, media and communications manager of ICC.
Meanwhile, the international players to go under the hammer for the Lanka Premier League auction, which will be held on October 1. And, the five franchises will have a choice of around 150 players to bid for.
Each franchise can buy up to six international players. That means the LPL is likely to have 30 international cricketers and 65 local cricketers, with each squad having 19 members as well.
As per the current schedule, the tournament will be held from November 14 and December 6. It will feature 23 matches, to be played in Dambulla, Pallekele and Hambantota, while the launch will take place in Hambantota.
