|| Desk Report ||
Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan all-rounder has never shied to comment on a lot of controversial topics which didn’t go well with many sometimes. However, he recently spoke about who is a better captain between Dhoni and Ricky Ponting. And, without any second thought, he named MS Dhoni is better than Ponting.
“I rate Dhoni a bit higher than Ponting as he developed a new team full of youngsters,” replied Afridi to a fan’s question.
MS Dhoni is the only captain in the world to have won all the ICC tournaments - 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. He has captained India in 332 matches which is the most in the world among which India won 178 games and lost 120 as well. With all these wins, he has an overall win percentage of 53, which is second after current India captain Virat Kohli who has the percentage of 64.
Whereas Ricky Ponting, one of the most celebrated captains in world cricket has a better success rate than MS Dhoni. In 324 matches where Ponting led Australia, they won 220 games and lost only 77 as well.
Earlier Suresh Raina had also found similarities in captaincy styles of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as well. He had said, "I would say he is the next MS Dhoni for the Indian cricket team.”
He further added, “I have seen him, he is calm, he likes to listen, he likes to give confidence to the players and on top of that, he likes to lead from the front. When the captain leads from the front and at the same time, he gives respect to the dressing room atmosphere, you know you have it all."
However, MS Dhoni’s fans can soon enjoy his action in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) which will soon take place in the UAE from September 19.
