Bangladesh veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim named former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni as his idol, stating that he hasn’t idolized any player until he witnessed Dhoni’s marauding journey at the highest level.
Mushfiqur said that Dhoni has a cricketing sixth sense that is really unparalleled compared to the others.
MS Dhoni led Team India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup, 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman captained the Men in Blue in 200 ODIs coupled with winning numerous Tests and T20I matches.
“I’m fond of Dhoni’s captaincy. I believe his name should be there amongst the all-time greatest captains. He has an excellent sixth sense and can effectively make predictions about what’s in store. His cricketing sense is also outstanding. As a captain, Dhoni has a great win percentage as well,” Mushfiqur Rashim said.
“There’s no major tournament that he hasn’t won. He is a skipper I like very much. Earlier I said that I didn’t have an idol. But now you can call Dhoni as my idol. Captains around the world can look up to him for inspiration,” Rahim was quoted as saying in an English media.
As of now, Dhoni is at the twilight of his international career and set to turn 39 a couple of weeks later. Dhoni, dubbed Mr captain cool for his calmness in games, last played in the 2019 ICC World Cup. After that, he hasn’t put the jersey number seven on his back.
The 33-year-old Mushfiqur, who just completed his 15 years with the Bangladesh team, on the other hand had a fair taste of captaincy at the highest level. The veteran player led Bangladesh in 34 Tests, 37 ODIs and 23 T20Is.
However, he was axed as the captain of the national team after the tour of South Africa in 2017. He is presently the leading run-scorer in Test cricket and also has the highest individual score for the Tigers in the longest format of the game. Mushfiqur is also the second-highest run-scorer for the Bangladesh team in ODIs.
