Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim successfully passed the fitness test on Tuesday to make him available for the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket League as well as the home series against Zimbabwe.
Mushfiqur was suffering from a hamstring injury that prevented him from taking part in the first round game of BCL, country’s lone franchise-based first-class tournament.

There was rumor in the air that he might miss the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe after chief selector Minhajul Abedin insisted that they will keep the same squad for the Zimbabwe Test, slated for February 22 and the second Test against Pakistan that they have announced for the first Test against Pakistan and Mushfiqur will have to play in the BCL to make him available for the home series against Zimbabwe.
‘’Mushfiqur had a grade one hamstring injury and was going under rehabilitation program. We were expecting him to be available from the second week of February. He had successfully passed the fitness test and is considered fit to take part in competitive cricket,’’ BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury told reporters after the fitness test at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
The speculation regarding Mushfiqur availability in the home series against Zimbabwe only grew stronger after head coach Russell Domingo insisted on Monday that they are likely to stick with the same squad for the upcoming three Tests as he wants to give the guys a good run though he added they are well aware about Mushfiqur contribution.
“I am under the impression that this is the squad for this one Test match. We will re-evaluate once we get back. You have to remember that Mushfiqur got runs in the last Test, but we also need to consider the fact that, it is hard to pick a batting line-up, change it for one Test, and then change it again for the third Test. I want to give guys a run, but we also need to consider that Mushfiqur was our best player in India,” Domingo told reporters ahead of the opening Test against Pakistan on Monday.
However, Mushfiqur passing in the fitness test only indicate that team management might have to change their plan and accommodate the most reliable batsman of the country in the playing XI against Zimbabwe.
