Bangladeshi left-handed opening batsman, Soumya Sarkar, has been vehemently criticized by most quarters of the Tigers’ fans as he has been very erratic this year. The elegant batsman had a stunning breakthrough year in 2015, where he scored a century against South Africa.

However, after that year, he seems to have faded a little as the optimum form can’t be seen in him anymore. Soumya, though, believes that his selflessness might be hindering his career with the national team and that he has to change the flow of his thinking.

“Some players have a problem from the beginning itself. I might have trouble after scoring 30-odd runs. I can’t say for sure what is happening to me—I am getting out in different ways every new game. I guess I have to change my thought-process.”

Sarkar then enthused that he has to find a way out it.

“I have to figure out of the problem because I will definitely learn from my mistakes.”

He then went on to stress that he worries about the scoring rate of the team, claiming that if he got slow, the team would have to face the repercussions.

“I have to think about the team. If I slow down at that time [after scoring 30 runs], it will slow down the side too.

“Perhaps if I played for myself, I think I can overcome this problem. But it gets a little difficult when I think about the team.”

Finally, he hoped that he would get out of this quagmire and hit the form that made him a star two years ago.

“The problem lies after scoring 30-40 runs. If I converted those 30-40 runs to half-centuries and got out after that, then everybody would have claimed that Soumya Sarkar is in form.

“Now that I am getting out on 30s and 40s, everyone says that I get out after getting set.

“I hope to get out of this situation.”
