Pathirana: In Cricket, Dhoni plays my father's role

CSK's Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana recently shared how MS Dhoni has had a significant impact on his cricketing journey, likening the veteran cricketer to a father figure.
In an interview with CSK's YouTube channel, Pathirana mentioned that Dhoni plays a role akin to that of a father on the field, offering guidance and support as he navigates his career.
"After my father, in my cricket life, he [Dhoni] plays my father's role. He takes care of me, and he gives me advice on what I have to do, similar to my father's thing when I'm at my home. I think that's enough," said Pathirana.
"He doesn't tell me a lot of things when I'm on the field and off the field, but he tells just small things that make a lot of difference and gives me a lot of confidence. He knows how to maintain the players. Off the field, we don't talk much, but if I have to ask something from him, definitely I'd go to him and ask him," he added.
CSK's young Sri Lankan pacer, Matheesha Pathirana, has been a standout performer in the current IPL season, picking up 13 wickets in just six matches.
With Mustafizur Rahman out of the tournament and domestic bowlers Tushar Deshpande and Deepak Chahar sidelined due to injuries, CSK will rely heavily on Pathirana for their upcoming fixtures.
Currently sitting in fifth place with five wins and five losses, CSK have four games left to secure a spot in the qualifiers.
The top four teams out of ten will advance to the next stage of the competition, making the remaining matches crucial for their playoff aspirations.
