It was raining records at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad with the hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clinching a 31-run victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) mind-boggling batting rewrote the record books on a batting belter. By posting 277 for three, SRH now have the highest team score in the history of the IPL – beating Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) 263 for five from the 2013 season.

In the slog overs, the enormity of the target proved a bit too much, and SRH clinched victory, but not without numerous nervous moments.

Heinrich Klaasen’s 23-ball half-century was the slowest fifty of the SRH innings. Travis Head, playing his first match for SRH, raced to the milestone in 18 balls.

Klaasen continued from where he left off in Kolkata. It was Klaasen who kept the momentum with SRH and continued to trouble the MI bowlers. The 116-run unbeaten stand between Klaasen and Aiden Markram took SRH to the record score, with Klaasen racing to 80 off 34 balls, featuring seven sixes.

Abhishek Sharma got there even faster – in 16 balls – to record the quickest fifty by an SRH batter in IPL history.

Mumbai Indians got off to a solid start, as Rohit Sharma went on the attack against Jaydev Unadkat, while Ishan Kishan took down Bhuvneshwar Kumar from the other end.

The openers got to 56 after just 3.2 overs, before Kishan holed out to Shahbaz. Rohit followed him shortly, as he skewed his pull shot against a Pat Cummins bouncer.

Mumbai however rebuild with Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma, as the two youngsters played aggressive cricket to keep the asking rate in check.

Varma attacked the spinners, scoring sixes for fun to get a fifty. However, the SRH skipper Cummins returned after the time-out, and got the much needed wicket of the southpaw.

Hardik and Tim David huffed and puffed after, but SRH's pacers were superb - hiding the ball outside off and offering no pace. The chase never took shape after that, as MI lose their second game as well.
