Sophie Molineux has made a statement in her return to one-day international cricket, with Australia’s spinners dominant in a series-sealing six-wicket second ODI win over Bangladesh.

Molineux captured three wickets and leaked just 10 runs from her first 10 overs in ODI cricket since October 2021, as Bangladesh were bowled out for 97 after electing to bat first at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

It was a dream return for Molineux, whose last ODI appearance was against India in October 2021 before serious foot and knee injuries saw her sidelined for a prolonged period.

“It's just nice to be back, to be honest. Being back on tour and it's good again. It was really cool. I think that all bowlers performed really well today, especially the spinners and to get over the line. It was a good day for us,” Molineux said in the post-match press conference.

The Aussies had won the first match by 118 runs at the same venue on Thursday and today easily won the match to seal the series, Molineux didn’t expect to win the series without any challenges.

“We probably never really thought about it like that. We knew that it was going to be a challenge coming over here. It's the back end of our season at home. So, we knew that the different conditions and the Bangladesh girls, they're going from strength to strength and they're really improving, which is a great opportunity for us to be over here playing against them on their own turf. So, we knew it was going to be a tricky series for most of it. And we know that we've still got a lot to work on and to grow as a team and to be able to get to where we want to get to,” she added.

The teams will meet in the third and final ODI at the same venue on Wednesday.
