The new assistant coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team, Nic Pothas, has joined the team in the ODI series against Ireland in England as he has started working today with the national team's practice in Bangladesh ahead of Afghanistan Test.

He is the one who has been watching the practice of the national team for the past few days at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. Head coach Chandika Hathurusingha is currently on leave.

The South African’s contract with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is for two years. However, he faced Bangladeshi media today and said it was not very difficult for him to make the decision to work with the Bangladesh team.

“It was not difficult to make this decision. I have been watching Bangladesh cricket for the last 12-18 months. The potential within the team is, in a word, extraordinary. The way they have been playing for the last 6-8 months, I think they will go far. And that's very exciting for me,” said Pothas to media on Thursday.

At the moment, like all other teams, Bangladesh's eyes are on the World Cup. Regarding what Bangladesh should do about the World Cup to be held in India next October-November, Pothas is also ready for the challenge.

“All countries are now looking towards the World Cup. We are no exception. The current cricketers of the Bangladesh team want to do well. We want to do ourselves proud in the World Cup. You never know what kind of challenges you will face in the World Cup. We therefore do not want to worry about things beyond our control. We should think about our own house. Hope we do well” he added.
