Middle-order batter Mushfiqur Rahim’s batting position has been changed to number six in the ongoing ODI series against Ireland as the wicket-keeper batter is loving his new job immensely.

Mushfiq has batted at number four for the major portion of his career.

In 2016, the batter's previous game was at number six. He has currently batted in 53 innings at position six, which is only surpassed by 117 innings at position four.

"It was a great opportunity for me to bat at six. If I remember correctly, I have batted at six before. The wicket was a bit wet early on but our openers and number 3 and four batted brilliantly. On this kind of wicket, I enjoyed batting a lot since it was good for batting. I tried to use my skills," Mushfiqur said today while talking to broadcasters.

The veteran player has praised the team's young players and given them credit for releasing the senior players' pressure and allowing them to express themselves freely.

He eliminated all doubt and seized the chance to assist Bangladesh in scoring over 300 runs in the first two games of the series. In the process, he also scored the fastest ODI century by a Bangladesh batter and passed the 7000-run mark.

"When youngsters like Shanto [Najmul Hossain] and [Towhid] Hridoy score runs, then it gives us the opportunity to go and start hitting from the first ball. It's a great relief. We are under no pressure and we just go out there and express ourselves," he added.

According to Mushfiqur, the team has gained momentum leading up to the world cup thanks to Chandika Hathurusingha's appointment as head coach.

"It's had been great so far with the new coach coming and we had a good build-up and hopefully if we can just continue with this momentum throughout this year I think we will be a very good team in the world cup," he concluded.
