Bangladesh U-19 women team suffered their first defeat in the ongoing U-19 Women’s World Cup as they lost to South Africa by five wickets in their super six clash on Saturday.

Bangladesh batted first and managed a meager 106-6, led by Sumaiya Akter's 28-ball 24.

Keyla Reyneke of South Africa did the damage, taking four wickets for 19 runs to restrict Bangladesh.

In response, Madison Landsman's 38-ball 37 and Karabo Meso's unbeaten 32 off 30 deliveries ensured South Africa's victory, as they scored 108 for five with seven balls to spare

Rabeya Khatun of Bangladesh made things interesting by foxing three batters and finishing with figures of three for 18 runs, but it wasn't enough for the Tigresses.

The young guns will face UAE in their second and final Super Six match on January 25.
