Bangladesh's star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has critiqued the structure of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), stating the domestic tournament DPL is better than BPL.
Shakib, who attended a multi-national company's function on Wednesday had a talk with the media regarding BPL arrangements and procedures.
“It is difficult to say whether they couldn’t or did not want to do it. I see no reason. Honestly, I believe, we never wanted to do anything until now. There is no budget because we could not plan a budget. If we could have than there was a standard, the BPL budget was supposed to be much bigger,” said Fortune Barishal captain Shakib.
"BPL is full of mismanagement. I think comparatively DPL is better than BPL. If I am given the CEO role of BPL. I think it will take 1 to 2 months to fix everything - maximum," he said.
When he was asked what changes would he want to bring in BPL if he was made the CEO? In this response, Shakib said," Everything would be canceled and there would be a new draft, new auction. The BPL would take place in free time, there would be modern technologies and the broadcast would be good and there would be a home and away system," he added.
Shakib was also disappointed for not having DRS in this season of BPL. BCB also had failed to install DRS in the past years as well.
Regarding the lack of sponsorship, Shakib said, "I think it's a big failure from a marketing point of view. That's why we couldn't create such a market."
