Former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas expressed excitement and anticipation for his first stint as coach of the Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

"I'm so excited and looking forward to the tournament. I am confident with my team," Vaas said the reporters on Tuesday.

Bangladesh pace spearhead Taskin Ahmed will lead Dhaka's pace unit, which had a fantastic 2022 with standout performances in all three formats.

Vaas, who is set for the role of the head coach for the first time in any franchise cricket league outside Sri Lanka, was optimistic that Taskin, who has been troubled by injuries throughout his career, would be able to dominate.

"He [Taskin] has been doing very well and adapting to all conditions as the leading fast bowler in Bangladesh. It's all about confidence and a positive approach and being a fast bowler, you tend to get niggles and injuries. But you need to cope with all these injuries and represent your country. I am pretty sure he will give his best for the Dhaka Dominators," he said.

The 48-year-old will bring all of his experience and will have the luxury of selecting from an experienced group that includes players such as Taskin, Soumya Sarkar, Al-Amin Hossain, Nasir Hossain, and Arafat Sunny, as well as youngsters such as Shoriful Islam.

"I have seen Shoriful play for Bangladesh. He is very talented and a really good bowler and is still very young. He has a lot of years to play for Bangladesh and I look forward to working with him," Vaas added.
