Bangladesh red-ball skipper Mominul Haque disclosed why Bangladesh opted to play slow cricket on the fourth day while trailing Sri Lanka’s first innings total.

Mominul explained that the wicket favored the batters, but that playing too many strokes disrupted their rhythm. As a result, they played more defensively.

“If you look into the game. If you see their batting if you see our batting. In this wicket, the batters could survive. If you try to accelerate, then maybe there will be more chances to lose wicket,”

"Had Liton not gotten dismissed at that time, we could have taken a chance to accelerate. But at that time, we lost a few quick wickets. Tamim [Iqbal] bhai and Liton got dismissed in quick succession. It Liton or anyone else could stay at the crease with Mushfiqur [Rahim] bhai at the crease for another hour then we could have done things differently," Mominul said.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are set to play the second Test on May 23 at Sher e Bangla National Stadium.
