Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque stated that all-rounder Shakib al Hasan will play the first Test match against Sri Lanka.

Shakib tested positive for Covid-19 twice upon his arrival from the USA. He returned negative on the Covid-19 test on Friday. However, his appearance in the first match was subject to fitness.

“He seemed to be fit. Hopefully… he will play. He looked well in practice. The coach has already said that he would play if he becomes 100% fit,” said Mominul during the press conference.

Earlier, Domingo said Shakib has not recovered completely and considering him in the XI will be difficult for the team as they required a 100% fit player for the five-day game.

"It is not a T20 or ODI which is done in six or seven overs. It is going to happen for over five days. Of course, we want him to play, he is one of the best cricketers that's ever played. But we need to make sure that he gives himself the best chance to perform and fulfill his role. Bowl at least 15 overs a day, bat for three or four overs in the top six," said Domingo.

The first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will take place on May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, with the second match taking place on May 23 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
