The Women's ODI World Cup has been going on since before the Men’s World Cup as this is the twelfth edition of the tournament. However, this is the debut for Bangladesh Tigresses.
Before going to play in the World Cup, captain Nigar Sultana Joty said this time there is a huge opportunity to show their ability. She also said at various ICC events after moving to New Zealand that they are looking forward to seizing the opportunity. This time in a video of ICC, the same tone of hope was heard in her voice.
Many of the players have been playing together for 10-12 years. They are also playing T20 World Cup regularly. But nothing great has yet been done to attract the attention of the world. This time they are waiting for the thrill.
“This is a big opportunity for Team Bangladesh. Our first (ODI) World Cup. It is on this platform that we want to show that we are improving and that we can compete in world cricket," Joty said.
"It's a great opportunity to show the world our growth and progress. We have been playing together for so many years. This is a great opportunity to show that we can fight and win,"
According to Nigar, if they can do something good in a place like the World Cup, many more girls of the new generation of Bangladesh will be interested in cricket.
"We want to do our best here and encourage young cricketers who are looking forward to seeing us perform well" she added.
